Accident management plans don’t have to be exhaustive; they just need to state what staff/contractors or others need to do in the event of an accident. An accident management plan should be placed somewhere where everybody can read it.

This guide will help you complete the document effectively. Please follow the steps below:

Step 1: Insert Site Information

  • Site Name and Address: In the designated areas, replace <Insert Name & Site Address> with the official name and address of your farm. This information is crucial for emergency services and regulatory bodies.

Step 2: Emergency Contacts

  • Nearest Hospital: Fill in the name, address, and telephone number of the nearest accident and emergency department. This information is essential for quick access to medical assistance in case of injuries.

Step 3: Accident Management Procedures

3.1 Fires on Site
  • Ensure you understand the fire safety procedures. Fill in the site address where indicated. Familiarize yourself with the location of fire extinguishers and the fire assembly point.
3.2 Spillages/Leakages on Site
  • Specify the contact number for the EA/SEPA/NIEA in case of a major spill. Understand the procedures for both minor and major spillages, and ensure spill kits are available on-site.
3.3 Minor & Major Injuries on Site
  • Identify the location of the first aid kit and eye wash station. Ensure that the nearest medical center’s details are filled in accurately.
3.4 Vehicle Collisions on Site
  • Review the procedures for handling vehicle collisions. Make sure to include the site address where indicated.
3.5 Unauthorized Persons on Site
  • Understand the protocol for dealing with unauthorized individuals. Ensure that the site address is filled in.
3.6 Flooding on Site
  • Fill in the contact number for the EA/SEPA/NIEA for reporting flooding incidents. Familiarize yourself with the procedures for managing flooding on-site.

Step 4: Training and Implementation

  • Ensure that all employees are trained on the procedures outlined in the plan. The director is responsible for the implementation of this plan, so make sure they are aware of their duties.

Step 5: Review and Update

  • Regularly review and update the Accident Management Plan to ensure it remains relevant and effective. Make adjustments as necessary based on changes in site operations or regulations.
