Guide to Completing the Farm Health and Safety Policy Template >
This guide will help you complete the document effectively. Please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Statement of Intent
- Business Name: Insert Business name, and additionally add your own company logo.
- Correct Legislation: The Health and Safety at Work Order 1974 is the correct legislation for England, Scotland & Wales. However, if you are from Northern Ireland, you must replace the top legislation with the Health and Safety at Work Order (Northern Ireland) 1978.
- Statements of Intent: Read the statements of intent and ensure that they align with your current health and safety policies and procedures. Edit and replace the statements of intent as required.
- Ownership Name: You may want to correct the wording of the first paragraph, we used “The Directors” although this may not fit your business, change as required i.e., “The Owners”, “The Partners”, etc,
Step 2: Responsibilities
- Overall Responsibility: Overall responsibility rests with the owner of the business; again, you may have to adjust “The Directors” wording.
- Responsibility Areas: The next section is where you can list others at your business who have responsibility in certain areas, these may or may not be relevant to your business. A typical scenario would be if a manager is overseeing all day-to-day operations or where you have employed a health and safety officer.
Step 3: Arrangements for Health & Safety
This is where you detail your health and safety arrangements. Make sure you read and fully understand these arrangements and ensure that they align with current business practices.

Extra arrangements applicable to your business must be added onto this policy and the arrangements included must be ad edited /adjusted for your business, we have just provided what are typical health and safety arrangements for risk assessments, consultation & communication, the provision of training & information, safe plant & equipment, PPE, Safety Signage and monitoring & reviewing.

- Change the footer version number and insert the date the new health and safety policy was issued.
- Print policy, sign, and date.
