How to read this table: Cost/MJ shows what you pay per megajoule of metabolisable energy — lower is better value for energy feeds like cereals. Cost/kg CP shows what you pay per kilogram of crude protein — lower is better value for protein feeds like rapeseed meal and soya. Silage ranks well on both metrics at these prices because the low fresh-weight price offsets the high moisture content.
