Verdict
The Bahco SL25 is a genuine step up from budget 1/4″ sets at a price that doesn't sting. The ratchet is smooth, the sockets are well-finished, and the 120mm head gets into spaces a standard ratchet can't touch. If you're buying once and keeping it for years, buy the Bahco.

Where it earns its place on a farm
A 1/4″ drive set isn't a replacement for your 1/2″ kit — it's the set you reach for when the 1/2″ ratchet won't fit. On a working farm there are more of those situations than you'd think.
Tractor cab switches & sensors
M5–M8 bolts in cramped cab panels — a full-size ratchet won't fit
Combine header guards & covers
Small fasteners in awkward positions, often Torx or hex
Dashboard & instrument cluster work
Delicate components where a 1/2″ ratchet is too brutal
Air filter and sensor housings
M6–M10 bolts, often behind engine components
Linkage pins and small brackets
Quick removal without hauling out the full socket set
In-cab repairs & roadside fixes
Compact enough to keep in the tractor toolbox at all times
Build quality
The ratchet mechanism is the first thing you notice — it's smooth and positive with no slop. At 120mm it's genuinely compact without feeling cheap or flimsy in the hand. The chrome vanadium sockets have a clean finish and seat firmly on the drive without any wobble.

The 120mm ratchet head — compact enough for tight tractor cab spaces
The moulded case keeps everything in place. This matters more than it sounds — a set that rattles loose in a toolbox drawer becomes a frustrating hunt every time you need one specific socket. The SL25 case holds its shape and the fittings stay put.
The 10 included bits cover the most common drive types you'll encounter on modern agricultural machinery (Torx is increasingly standard on European tractor manufacturers) — it's a well-thought-out selection rather than a filler count.
Bahco SL25 vs Draper 1/4″ drive set

Bahco SL25 vs Draper — both sets side by side
The obvious alternative at a similar price is the Draper 1/4″ drive socket and bit set. Draper makes decent value tools and there's nothing fundamentally wrong with their equivalent. But side by side, the difference in ratchet quality is noticeable — the Bahco mechanism is smoother and more precise, and the overall fit and finish of the sockets is better.
Bahco SL25
- Professional brand, long track record
- Smoother ratchet mechanism
- Better chrome vanadium finish
- Includes 4.5 and 5.5mm sockets
Draper equivalent
- –Good value brand
- –Ratchet feels less refined
- –Fine for occasional use
- –May lack half-size sockets
In our opinion: if you're price-sensitive, Draper is fine. If you're buying a set to keep for 10 years, buy the Bahco.
